LOCATION
As it is a listed building designed by the architect Oriol Bohigas, a key figure in the recovery of Barcelona Modernisme, Roig’s team had to reproduce the modulation of the original façade with the new façade, increasing its technical difficulty. To achieve their task, a third of the building had to be demolished and its structure subsequently consolidated. At the same time, courtyards, staircases, lifts and ventilation fountains were created.
Its location on Calle Aragón, one of the busiest streets in the city of Barcelona, meant that special attention had to be paid to the composition, materials used and execution of the façade in order to avoid noise pollution for its tenants.
In terms of installations, and in line with Roig’s commitment to the environment, one of the most efficient air-conditioning and DHW systems was implemented in this building: aerothermics, an ecological technology that harnesses the heat energy of the environment to provide cooling, heating and domestic hot water. This innovative, energy-efficient system offers savings of up to 80% on heating bills compared to other electric heaters. It also provides a comfortable home all year round – heating in winter and cooling in summer – even in extreme outdoor temperatures.
Roig’s team carried out the adaptation and refurbishment work over a period of 16 months, meeting the deadlines set at the start of the project.
